Santa Ana is a first-class landlocked municipality located in the province of Pampanga, Central Luzon, Philippines. As of the 2020 census, it has a population of 61,537 people and covers a land area of approximately 39.84 square kilometers, making it a moderately sized municipality in the province. Geographically, it is bordered by the municipalities of Magalang and Arayat to the north, Candaba to the east, San Luis to the south, and Mexico to the west.
The economy of Santa Ana is predominantly agricultural. The town produces rice, corn, sugarcane, bananas, and a variety of vegetables, particularly in barangays such as San Agustin, Sto. Rosario, San Roque, and San Pablo. These products contribute to the municipality’s identity as one of the agricultural hubs in the region. Small to medium industries also thrive in the area, supporting local livelihoods and community development.
Culturally, Santa Ana is known for its colorful festivals and strong traditions. The Majigangga Festival, held during the Christmas season and the Feast of the Three Kings, features giant puppets made from bamboo, paper mache, and recycled materials, paraded in celebration of local folklore and devotion. Another notable event is the Kuraldal Dance, a lively street procession held in the first week of January in honor of barrio saints. The municipality also celebrates its founding anniversary every January 1, commemorating its re-establishment as a separate town in 1913.
Historically, Santa Ana began as a visita (chapel) of Arayat in 1598 and was reconstituted as a municipality on January 1, 1913. It was once referred to as "Balen Pinpin," which means “laid aside.” Despite its modest size, Santa Ana has preserved many heritage sites and colonial-era structures. Among its key landmarks is the Sta. Ana Parish Church, built in 1853 under Fr. Lucas Gonzalez. This stone church is notable for its spacious nave and four-story hexagonal belltower. Other historical structures include the Pedro Montoya House and the Aliwalas Family House in San Joaquin, as well as the Santa Ana Plaza and the municipal museum located near the church.
Santa Ana celebrates its town fiesta every July 26 in honor of its patron saint, Saint Anne. The celebration draws residents and visitors together in a display of faith, tradition, and local pride.
